The Guangzhou municipal planning and natural resources bureau (Haizhu district branch), announced on Nov 22 that it would hold an international urban design competition for Pazhou east district.

The competition will promote the construction of the Pazhou Core Area of the Guangzhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Experimental Zone.

The competition requires participating teams to propose innovative and forward-looking urban design concepts and plans for the Pazhou east district. The competition is divided into three categories: regional development strategy, conceptual urban design, and detailed design of the core area.

The regional development strategy category requires participants to consider the coordinated development of Pazhou east district and its surrounding key functional areas. It also involves the construction of a demonstration zone that promotes the high-quality development of the digital economy.

The scope of the conceptual urban design competition has a total area of 336 hectares. The scope of the detailed design competition has a total area of 210 hectares.

The deadline for competition registration is 5:00 pm on Dec 22. The competition offers generous monetary awards, with a first prize totaling 2.8 million yuan ($391,650).
