The ongoing 134th Canton Fair – which runs to Nov 4 in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province – is said to have made important achievements in its green development.

All the exhibition halls are utilizing 100 percent green electricity, making it the first-ever Canton Fair to achieve full coverage of green power and to issue zero carbon emissions.

Green electricity refers to power with zero or near-zero carbon dioxide emissions during the production process, primarily sourced from renewable energy such as solar power and wind power. By using green electricity, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced, promoting the development of renewable energy, and making contributions to environmental protection.

During the current Canton Fair, supply agreements were signed with China General Nuclear New Energy and Guangdong Power Grid Energy Investment for a total of 12 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity.

According to estimates, the fair has achieved a full-process green power supply, resulting in a reduction of about 7,655 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to planting nearly 800,000 trees.

In addition to these accomplishments, the 134th Canton Fair features other green innovations and developments. For the first time, noise control measures have been implemented, creating a "quiet Canton Fair" by reducing noise levels at the exhibition site. Furthermore, other efforts are being made to promote the green development of the entire fair.
