Haizhu district of Guangzhou - capital of South China's Guangdong province - opened a two-day Mid-Autumn Festival public welfare market on Sept 22.
The Xingang neighborhood social workstation in Haizhu district, along with students from 12 primary and secondary schools and several businesses, participated in the event. Funds were raised through charity sales to support projects for the elderly in communities.
The market featured over 10 stands offering traditional handicrafts and interactive games. The items for sale were all donated by companies based in Haizhu district, as well as students and parents.
Student Chen Jiahao said that participating in the event allowed her to experience the buzz of strategizing with classmates and parents, while also being able to contribute the proceeds to caring initiatives.
The event also featured an intangible cultural heritage items experience area, where participants could learn about the history of jasmine flowers and the process of making pomanders - balls made to carry perfumes or aromatic spices, among others. They also received exquisite jasmine flowers badges.
A resident said that while purchasing cute trinkets at the market, they were also contributing to charitable services in Xingang.
