The Haizhu Bridge in Haizhu district of Guangzhou - capital of South China's Guangdong province - recently made it into the eighth batch of the 20th Century Chinese Architectural Heritage List.
The results were released at a seminar held at the Wangjiang campus of Sichuan University on Sept 16.
A total of 101 projects from around the country made it onto the list, with nine projects coming from Guangdong province.
The projects featured in the 8th batch are deemed to closely relate to the history of construction of the new China since 1949. Projects that are emblematic of the era and that are said to have propelled the progress of 20th century architecture accounted for 56 percent of the total.
Among the nine Guangdong projects, four are located in Guangzhou. They are Haizhu Bridge, the former site of the Guangdong Agricultural Exhibition Hall, the Guangdong Museum of Art and the Xinghai Concert Hall.
Three are from Shenzhen, including the Shenzhen Science Museum, the Shenzhen Museum and the Shekou Industrial Zone Building.
One is in Foshan, namely the Shunde People's Hall and one is in Zhanjiang, namely the French Minister Department Site and the former site of the French army headquarters in Guangzhou Bay.
