The Pazhou Bridge, located in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou - capital city of South China's Guangdong province - celebrated its 20th birthday on Aug 29.
Completed and opened to traffic in 2003, it connects Haizhu with Tianhe district in the eastern part of Guangzhou. With a total length of 1,205 meters, the bridge starts from Yuancun village on the north banks of the Pearl River and ends at Pazhou village in the northeast of Haizhu.
Over the two decades, the bridge has reduced the traffic pressure on both sides of the Pearl River. It is also said to play a significant role in promoting the development of Haizhu's Pazhou Digital Island and Tianhe's Guangzhou International Financial City, as well as supporting the Canton Fair.
Currently, the average daily two-way traffic flow on Pazhou Bridge exceeds 130,000 vehicles.
In 2017, extensive maintenance was carried out on the bridge deck. Last year, 210-meter-long noise barriers were installed on the northern side of the bridge, further reducing traffic noise.
