The Guangzhou municipal planning and natural resources bureau recently issued land use plans for the south area of Pazhou, Haizhu district.

The south area of Pazhou is located to the south of Pazhou island, bounded by the Huangpu River to the north, Chisha Road to the west and Xinjiao East Road to the south.

The total land area is 4.48 square kilometers and the approved area for this project is 0.81 sq km, which is the eastern region beyond Xinjiao East Road.

In the southern area of Pazhou, a 500-kilovolt substation and a waste compression station will be set up. The planning also strictly implements land use controls, prohibiting the conversion of existing agricultural land within the 10,000 mu (667 hectares) fruit orchard wetland protection area for non-agricultural construction purposes.

The Pazhou branch line of the Pearl River Delta Intercity Railway is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. The line will connect with the Guangzhou-Foshan Loop Line at Pazhou Station and with the Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway at Lianhua Station.

After opening, it will link the Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway, Metro Line 7, the Guangzhou-Foshan Loop Line, Metro Line 8 and Metro Line 11, connecting Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Foshan cities. This is projected to boost the interconnectivity of intercity rail transits in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
