2nd Guangzhou Pazhou Algorithm Competition to be held in Haizhu

The second Guangzhou Pazhou Algorithm Competition will be held in Haizhu on April 25.

This competition is organized by the Guangzhou municipal people's government, the Haizhu district people's government, the science and technology bureau of Guangzhou, the industry and information bureau of Guangzhou, and the Guangdong Laboratory for AI and Digital Economy (Guangzhou).

With the slogan of "Optimize AI algorithms, make the world smarter," the competition has set up five competitions that focus on green energy, intelligent transportation, intelligent manufacturing, e-commerce, and cutting-edge technology.

In addition to the prize money, participants will also have the opportunity to obtain policy support, investments, computing resources, and green channels for government services. The government has also promised that winners will receive a platform to display their advanced technology products.

At the opening ceremony, Ni Guangnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Qian Depei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will deliver speeches via video.

Zhang Jingzhong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fang Binxing, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Chen Junlong, a foreign academician of the European Academy of Sciences and deputy director of the Pazhou Laboratory, are all set to attend the competition's opening ceremony, where new AI products will also be introduced.

A total of 262 domestic and foreign teams from 249 enterprises participated in the first Guangzhou Pazhou Algorithm Competition. The projects involved in the previous competition focused on industrial intelligent warning systems, smart retail, smart construction, and intelligent teaching. The enterprises that participated were mainly from Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing, among which the enterprises from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen accounted for more than 60 percent of the total entries. The competition lasted nearly three months, and 19 teams were awarded.

The Guangdong Province's New Generation of AI Innovation Development Action Plan (2022-25) shows that by 2025, Guangdong will be home to more than 40 leading enterprises with the leading technological innovation capabilities. The scale of its core industries is also expected to exceed 150 billion yuan ($21.77 billion) within this time frame.

In terms of AI, the Ministry of Science and Technology will set up an AI development office that will undertake major projects dealing with new-generation artificial intelligence in the fields of digital manufacturing and smart medical care.
