The Special Plan for Urban Renewal in Guangzhou (2021-35) opened for public consultation on Feb 6.
The special plan proposes the urban regeneration of an area of about 300 square kilometers by 2035 through a combination of micro-renovations, mixed renovations and full-scale renovations.
Haizhu district, for example, plans to promote 13 village industrial cluster projects with a total land area of about 96 hectares. It also plans to promote 13 projects that focus on the full-scale renovation and mixed transformation of old villages and towns.
To be specific, the special plan focuses on promoting urban renewal at the southern end of the district's central axis and the Guangzhou Pilot Zone for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy.
It will prioritize the regeneration of land in provincial economic development zones and the preservation of industrial heritage along Industrial Avenue.
The special plan also reviews the effectiveness of urban renewal in Guangzhou, in which two cases in Haizhu district are mentioned, including the transformation of Pazhou village, and the transformation of the old factory at the T.I.T Creative Park.
The renovation of the old factory at the T.I.T Creative Park conserves old industrial buildings while upgrading the landscape of the park. [Photo/WeChat account: gzhzfb]
