The Chepi South Tunnel recently opened, reducing the transportation time between Pazhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Pilot Zone and Tianhe district. As a result, Haizhu has changed five bus routes.

These five bus routes are the No 28, 774, 495, 485, and 722 buses. Before the tunnel opens to traffic, the driving time from Xingang East Road in Haizhu district to Chepi South Road in Tianhe district was about 15 to 30 minutes. Since the tunnel has opened to traffic, the driving time has been reduced to two to five minutes.

Since the tunnel opened, it is now possible to drive from Chepi South Road to the intercontinental Guangzhou Poly Hotel on the other side of the Pearl River without having to go on the Pazhou Bridge. As a result, the traffic pressure on the Pazhou Bridge and the Dongpu Bridge has been reduced.

The construction of the Chepi South Tunnel in Guangzhou began in December 2017 and the tunnel opened to traffic on Jan 18. It starts from the north of Xingang East Road in Haizhu district in the south, intersects Yuejiang Road, runs through the Pearl River, intersects Linjiang Avenue and Huacheng Avenue, which is under construction in Tianhe district, in the north, then ends at the intersection of Huangpu Avenue. It runs a total length of about 2.07 kilometers with the tunnel road being 60 meters wide. It has six two-way lanes crossing the river tunnel section, with a design speed of 60 km per hour.
