Gongye Avenue in Haizhu district, Guangzhou, was built in 1952 and developed to be the largest industrial base in South China.
Gongye Avenue, from Renmin's Bridge in the north to Nanzhou Road in the south, is 8-km long. In the 1950s, more than 60 factories were built in the area, including Guangzhou Shipyard, and Guangzhou Iron and Steel Enterprise.
South China's first 10,000-metric-ton giant ship, China's first battery chip, and China's first centrifuge were all built by companies in this industrial base. Many brands such as Jieyin toothpaste and Wanbao refrigerators have also been created on Industrial Avenue.
Today, Industrial Avenue is densely populated with buildings, while some old abandoned factories have been transformed into garden areas and others have been renovated into creative parks.
Its historical mission has long been completed during the past 70 years, but the industrial spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship will continue to shine.
