Recently, 26 communities in Haizhu began to provide oxygen therapy services for residents in need.
Oxygen therapy is a very important treatment for patients who experience severe COVID-19 symptoms, especially for those already suffering from respiratory diseases, and whose lungs are unable to extract enough oxygen from the air.
There are many kinds of oxygen therapy, including long-term oxygen therapy, nighttime oxygen therapy, and intermittent oxygen therapy, which can be selected depending on the disease or symptoms. Measuring blood oxygenation enables medical staff to adjust the oxygen flow according to patients' needs.
Patients with COVID-19 who experience decreased oxygen saturation or increased respiratory rate have a markedly elevated risk for mortality. COVID-19 patients often have undiagnosed hypoxemia without experiencing overt symptoms, resulting in a missed opportunity to institute early, potentially life-saving treatment.
