Haizhu achieves full coverage of compulsory education schools

In the past 10 years, Haizhu has promoted education equity, achieving full coverage of compulsory education in standardized schools.

In 2011, Haizhu district spent 1.62 billion yuan ($222 million) on public financing for education at all levels, which has grown to 3.64 billion yuan in 2021, an increase of 124.9 percent.

In the past 10 years, the total area of public secondary schools in Haizhu increased by 102,137 square meters and the building construction area increased by 93,056 sq m, while the total area of public elementary schools increased by 102,225 sq m and the building construction area increased by 86,490 sq m. In that period, 10 new schools have opened in the district.

Haizhu is the first district in Guangzhou to realize the placement of children with special needs in schools that can meet their needs. 27 general primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in the district have established special education resource rooms, as well as established a special education network.

In Haizhu, the "double reduction" policy has taken effect. All of its public elementary schools provide after-school services to students in their own schools, with a 97 percent participation rate of voluntary childcare students and a 95 percent satisfaction rate of parents. Schools in Haizhu offered 1,543 high-quality courses, added three new sub-schools of the Haizhu District Children's Palace, as well as cultivated five pilot schools with "double reduction" teaching and research bases.
