In 2011, Haizhu district spent 1.62 billion yuan ($222 million) on public financing for education at all levels, which has grown to 3.64 billion yuan in 2021, an increase of 124.9 percent.

In the past 10 years, the total area of public secondary schools in Haizhu increased by 102,137.36 square meters and the building construction area increased by 93,056.39 sq m, while the total area of public elementary schools increased by 102,224.68 sq m and the building construction area increased by 86,490.32 sq m. In that period, 10 new schools have opened in the district.

Haizhu has achieved full coverage of compulsory education in standardized schools. In the past five years, Haizhu has increased student capacity at primary and secondary schools by 9,886 and by 13,585 at public kindergartens, with the number of children in public kindergartens in Haizhu reaching 52.98 percent of its capacity, as well as the number of children in public and inclusive private kindergartens reaching 86.53 percent of its capacity.

Haizhu has two national model high schools and four Guangzhou model high schools, with the ratio of model high school student capacity to general high school student capacity increasing to 74.6 percent.

Haizhu public elementary schools also provide after-school services to students, with a 97 percent participation rate of voluntary care students and a 95 percent satisfaction rate of parents.
