According to the 2021-2022 insect monitoring survey report of the Institute of Zoology, Guangdong Academy of Sciences, there are currently 738 species of insects in 157 families in the Haizhu wetland.
Among them, there were nine new recorded species in Haizhu, including one new recorded family and three new recorded genera.

In this survey, Coleoptera was an important group. As the most diverse and widely distributed order in the class of insects, Coleoptera occupies 38 percent of the entire class of insects. It has a wide variety of habitats and is also highly sensitive to environmental changes.
A variety of beetles were found in the survey, such as herbivorous leaf beetles, weevil beetles, fungus-eating beetles, and predatory lady beetles, which indicated that the Haizhu wetland had a high degree of beetle diversity.
The newly recorded species in China discovered in this insect survey show that the ecological environment of the Haizhu wetland has been significantly improved after 10 years of protection and restoration.
