The Canton Tower community of Chigang Street has been selected to apply for an international community pilot project representing Guangzhou's Haizhu district, local media outlets reported on Aug 26.

Guangzhou is now selecting 10 to 15 communities for the pilot project and they are expected to be an important fulcrum for Guangzhou's high-level opening-up by 2035.

The community spans from the Yuhan Road, which runs under the Guangzhou Bridge in the west, Huangpuchong in the east, and the Pearl River in the north. It covers an area of about 1.2 square kilometers and has a 4-km bank line.

Being the tallest tower in China, the 600-meter-high Canton Tower is a landmark in Guangzhou.

In recent years, the community has strived to improve its comprehensive environmental quality in accordance with 5A-grade standards , aiming to build a world-class scenic spot.

With its livable environment and supporting facilities, the community provides room to build up the district's international presence.

It is also making efforts to improve its service system and capabilities, as well as to optimize the foreign language signage system in public places, thus enhancing the recognition of becoming an international community.
