A He Xiaoqing volunteer service activity was held in Guangzhou's Haizhu district on Aug 20 with 60 students.

The activity raised the students' awareness of the public responsibility in protecting rivers and lakes, as well as how the volunteer service actions provide opportunities to participate in Haizhu's river and lake protection efforts. They also learned about water quality testing, video shooting, and the measures launched to beautify the environment of the ecological belt.

The students formed 10 river patrol teams, led by team leaders, volunteer coordinators, and private river chiefs in Haizhu district. They completed tasks related to river protection, while learning information related to river and lake protection.

The first special theme activity started from Xingwen Square in Haizhu district and went along the former waterway of the Pearl River to the Exhibition East New Times Post Station. During the activity, interactive games were set up related to water quality testing, video shooting, and the Haizhu water system.

Since the voluntary service action was launched in July this year, 25 river patrol activities have been carried out, involving more than 400 middle school students. The head of the Hexiaoqing Volunteer Service Team in Haizhu district said, "As the head of the Hexiaoqing Volunteer Service Team in Haizhu district, I have the responsibility and obligation to lead everyone to become guardians of rivers and lakes."
