According to the Guangdong Forestry Bureau, five provincial-level natural education bases were identified to be part of the first batch of high-quality natural education bases in Guangdong, including Haizhu Wetland.
In recent years, Haizhu Wetland has continued to create a good ecological environment, carried out rich natural courses, as well as guided the innovation and development of the natural education industry.
Haizhu Wetland currently has more than 50 popular science education teams and 133 professional volunteers. In the past three years, volunteers have independently carried out 179 nature education courses, serving 10,431 people.
Haizhu Wetland has established cooperative relations with more than 500 schools, enterprises, social organizations, as well as other units, regularly carrying out a series of quality courses, such as living wetlands, farming experience, and wetland research. It has provided various forms of popular science education for different age groups, jointly developing high-quality nature education. It has held more than 3,000 high-quality natural education courses and large-scale popular science activities, attracting 2 million participants.
To date, Haizhu Wetland has recorded 835 species of vascular plants in 146 families, as well as 888 species of animals in 270 families, including 155 families and 536 species of insects, five families and eight species of amphibians, 11 families and 22 species of reptiles, and 53 families and 187 species of birds. It is home to eight species of mammals in four families, 60 species of fish in 18 families, as well as 67 species of benthic animals in 24 families.
