On July 2, the launch ceremonies for the Guangdong Pop Music Association, the Guangzhou Pop Music Association and Guangzhou Palace Hall were held in Haizhu.

The predecessor of the Guangdong Pop Music Association was the Guangdong Popular Music Research Association, which was established in 1990. It was the earliest pop music society established in mainland China. The founding president was Chen Xiaoqi. After 32 years, it has grown from dozens of members when it was founded in 1990 to more than 10,000 members today.

The event also awarded licenses to the Guangdong Pop Music Association's Music Copyright Committee, Language Arts Committee, Musical Theatre Committee, and Pop Music Training Committee.

Guangdong pop music is one of the important cultural achievements of Guangdong's reform and opening up. It is also the first cultural industry in China to enter the market-oriented operation.

Guangdong is the birthplace and cradle of contemporary pop music in mainland China. Since 1977, Guangdong has produced China's first light music team, its first live music cafe, its first pop music writing and singing competition, as well as its first batch of signed singers.
