Haixin Bridge has been open for one year, and its passenger flow has reached 3.4 million.
Haixin Bridge starts from Ersha Island in the north and ends at Canton Tower in the south, spanning both sides of the Pearl River. It is a curved-girder, cable-stayed bridge that spans 198 meters of water, with a total length of 488 meters and a width of 15 meters.
It incorporates images that are representative of Lingnan culture (culture of Guangdong and the nearby provinces in southeastern China), such as the long sleeves of Cantonese opera, water flower markets, and the guqin. The unique design of the cable-stayed arch and curved beams has also made it a symbol of exemplary bridge construction in China.
Tourists and residents can now walk from Canton Tower, commonly known as Xiaomanyao, to Ersha, Huacheng Square, Haixinsha Asian Games theme park, the Guangdong Museum, and other landmarks in the city's Zhujiang New Town in Tianhe district.
He Jingtang, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that the Haixin Bridge is the first pedestrian bridge to run across the Pearl River in Guangzhou. It integrates elements of Lingnan culture.
"The Cantonese-style design fully embodies the depth of Lingnan culture and the image of Guangzhou as a modern international metropolis," said He, who led the design team.
