Haizhu recently released a promotional video detailing the stories behind the names of places across the district like Huangpu ancient village, Longtan village, Nanhua West Street, and Industrial Avenue.

Huangpu ancient village is located on Pazhou Street, north of Huangpu River, so it is called Huangpu. Legend says that a beautiful phoenix flew here to stay in ancient times. It is located in the Pearl River fortress and the national foreign trade center, witnessing the prosperity and development of the Maritime Silk Road.

Nanhua West Street is located south of the beautiful Pearl River, with a name signifying prosperity and development on the south bank of the river. In the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), Pan Zhencheng and other merchants engaged in foreign trade in the 13th Bank of Canton. After becoming rich, Pan built a house and repaired a temple in the area where Nanhua West Street is now located.
