Haizhu has given up trillions-yuan-worth of commercial development opportunities to protect the Haizhu National Wetland Park.

In less than 10 years since its establishment, Haizhu National Wetland Park has made great strides in biodiversity conservation.

In recent years, Haizhu has carried out a number of ecological restoration projects according to local conditions, providing livable space for more wild animals and plants and forming a new model of urban construction.

At the end of last year and the beginning of this year, two new species of insects were discovered in the Haizhu National Wetland Park.

To date, Haizhu National Wetland Park has recorded 835 species of vascular plants in 146 families; 888 species of animals in 270 families, including 155 families and 536 species of insects, five families and eight species of amphibians, 11 families and 22 species of reptiles, and 53 families and 187 species of birds. There are eight species of mammals in four families, 60 species of fish in 18 families, and 67 species of benthic animals in 24 families.
