The Guangzhou municipal planning and natural resources bureau issued a document asking for public opinions regarding its plan for high-quality development and construction along the Pearl River on May 13.

The high-quality development work along the Pearl River involves about 100 kilometers of the Pearl River waterway, mainly focusing on the 75-kilometer central urban area.

The plan takes the Pearl River as a link that connects important development areas along the coast, with the goal of building a world-class waterfront area that will serve as a model of high-quality development with international standards, a global vision, as well as Guangzhou characteristics.

Haizhu will upgrade parks and build high-quality public spaces. It plans to build 21 waterfront parks in the downtown area, with 16 square kilometers in parks, adding 6.5 sq km in green space.

Haizhu will promote the construction of cultural and leisure stations, improve service facilities like convenience services, emergency medical care, sign guidance, and barrier-free access, as well as improve riverside parking availability.

Haizhu will strengthen biodiversity protection efforts, consolidate the embankment of the Pearl River, as well as build historical and cultural roads with Guangzhou characteristics.
