The Haizhu River treatment project recently resumed work as a public interest program. It originally started in 2016 but stopped abruptly one year later.

The Haizhu River is an important water system in Guangzhou's Haizhu district.

Although the treatment project started in 2016, it was suspended in November 2017 by the district government to ensure that the water quality of the Haizhu River could pass the national assessment.

Last year, a follow-up construction plan was created. However, the original construction unit was no longer available to implement it. With the approval of the water affairs bureau, a new construction unit was created in November 2021 to undertake the resumption of the treatment project.

At present, the new construction unit has obtained the construction permit and entered the site to resume work. The project is expected to be completed within the year. It mainly includes two storage tanks, with the rainwater collected in the storage tanks able to be transferred through pipelines to the Haizhu River No 2 pumping station for treatment.
