After 42 days of work, the iconic streamer-like roof support system of the fourth phase of the Canton Fair Complex was completed on Feb 7, laying a strong foundation for the next stage of the project, metal roof construction.

This complex was built by China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. Its total construction area is about 560,000 square meters. After the project is completed, the total construction area of the Canton Fair Complex will increase to 1.68 million sq m, making it one of the largest modern exhibition complexes in the world.

The roof of the main exhibition hall in phase four of the Canton Fair Complex adopts the shape of a streamer, with four independent steel structure roofs. The plane size of a single roof is about 128.3 by 93 meters.

During construction, the project team made innovations with the construction technology and set up rolling sliding tracks at an altitude of 38 m. The span of the steel sliding unit was 119.5 m, and the farthest sliding unit needed to be 330.75 m. The eight slip units had to be assembled independently in sequence and slid in batches. Operators monitored the whole process to ensure the safety and reliability of the construction process.

The pavilion is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.
