Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology announced 19 characteristic industrial parks on Dec 22, of which three were in Guangzhou, including the Pazhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Experimental Zone.
The Pazhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Experimental Zone started in 2015 and is currently home to 28,000 enterprises. In December 2020, it was recognized as a provincial-level high-tech zone by the Guangdong Provincial Government. It has built more than 10 railways and a Hong Kong-Macao passenger port, with complete facilities and services related to commerce, education, medical care, and government services.
The zone is located next to the Sun Yat-sen University, the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center and the Canton Fair Pavilion. The Guangdong Provincial Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Laboratory started construction in 2019, and consists of nine central research institutes and two research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and two national-level technology business incubators.
The zone has 218 companies involved in digital creativity, attracting leading companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, and Gome, which are involved in the fields of artificial intelligence, e-commerce, smart manufacturing, and technology and finance.
Of the 39 key industrial projects planned in Pazhou west district, 14 have already been completed. By 2023, most of the projects will be expected to begin operating. The industrial space is expected to be 4.5 million square meters in area with 200,000 employees.
