Haizhu recently announced that the old factory plot in Butterfield & Swire's Godowns & Wharf will undergo renovations. The renovations will turn the area into Guangzhou's first world-class art and leisure landmark featuring port and wharf culture and will be completed in 2024.
Butterfield & Swire's Godowns & Wharf is located in Haizhu district of Guangzhou. It is an important historical relic of Guangzhou's modern foreign trade and port transportation and a continuation of the history and culture of the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
The land area for the renovated plot is about 23,000 square meters, which will be used for the construction of commercial blocks, seven to eight commercial buildings and parking lots. The total construction area is about 90,000 sq m.
Butterfield & Swire's Godowns & Wharf consists of three T-shaped terminals and eight warehouses, of which seven were built by British merchants in 1904. It is an AAA-level tourist attraction in China, and features cinemas, specialty bars, and restaurants. Its annual business income exceeds 220 million yuan ($34.62 million).
