The Pazhou Pilot Area for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy in Guangzhou's Haizhu district has been awarded with the title as a national e-commerce demonstration base on Sept 3.

The area has been the only one of its kind in Guangdong province to win the honor this year.

Haizhu district has made full use of the development opportunities brought by the digital economy and has achieved leapfrog development in the e-commerce industry in the Pazhou area.

The main operation income of companies in the Pazhou area expanded by 89.9 percent year on year to 41.28 billion yuan ($6.39 billion) in the first seven months of 2021.

The area has became home to 304 high-tech companies by the end of 2020 and the main operation income of companies managing information transfer software and information technology services reached 39.48 billion yuan in 2020.

More than 50 industrial leading companies have settled down in Pazhou, including Alibaba, Tencent, Vipshop, Gome and Miniso and the upstream and downstream companies of these industrial giants' industrial chains are supported to cluster in Pazhou.

Preferential policies have also been made by Haizhu district to support the growth of the livestreaming e-commerce industry. For example, those meeting certain requirements will be awarded with a one-time subsidy of up to 3.5 million yuan.
