A ferry service across the Pearl River in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, has gained popularity after a bridge was closed for renovation.

The 23-year-old Hedong Bridge, which links up the city's Haizhu and Liwan districts, was closed on Aug 13 for a six-month renovation project, leading to heavier traffic in the Zhoutouzui Tunnel under the Pearl River and more people choosing to cross by ferry.

Ferry service, between Baixianke Pier in Haizhu and Baihedong Pier in Liwan, are scheduled to operate between 6 am and 8 pm. A one-way trip between piers takes about five minutes.
