Haizhu sees robust GDP growth in H1

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Haizhu district in Guangzhou registered a 13 percent growth in the first half of this year, totaling almost 108.77 billion yuan ($16.78 billion), according to the data released by the Haizhu government.

The industrial output of the district's enterprises above designated size increased 34.4 percent year-on-year in the January-June period.

During the same period, the turnover of the accommodation and catering sector surged by 50.2 percent, and the for-profit service industry, construction industry, wholesale and retail all saw double-digit growth.

Haizhu's fixed-asset investment hit 21 billion yuan in the first half, up 30.2 percent from the same period last year. Construction has started on a number of projects, including the headquarters of Guangdong Provincial Port & Shipping Group Co., Ltd. and 37 Interactive Entertainment, as well as Haizhu Bay Tunnel.

In the first half of the year, the district's total tax revenue reached 11.85 billion yuan, up 13.4 percent from the previous year and showing a good momentum in relation to economic recovery and development.

In addition, 2,381 new enterprises were registered in the Pazhou Pilot Zone of Haizhu in the first half, bringing the total number of enterprises in the district to 30,500. The business income of enterprises in the zone increased by 33.1 percent from Jan to Jun.

To better serve local enterprises, Haizhu has unveiled a series of policies to help its companies recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
