Haizhu is expected to have 59 major projects under construction this year and complete 16 of them by year end. Of the total projects, nine have begun or will begin construction this year and five have concluded contracts.

Haizhu’s overall annual investment in 2021 will be 14.14 billion yuan ($2.18 billion), and the investment of all the projects is estimated to total 231.38 billion yuan. Twenty billion yuan will be invested in the nine newly started projects.

From Jan to May, 7.55 billion yuan was invested in the district.

In late June, a big project of the year in Haizhu, the Haixin Bridge, was officially opened. It is a new pedestrian bridge across the Pearl River.

Using this bridge, people can walk from Canton Tower to Huacheng Square, the Haixinsha Asian Games theme park, the Guangdong Museum and other landmarks in the city's Zhujiang New Town in Tianhe district.

Another significant project about to be completed are waterway transportation routes that will connect Haizhu with Hong Kong International Airport and the downtowns of Hong Kong and Macao, shortening the travel time to the SARs to two hours.  

The port is expected to promote in-depth cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong in the fields of exhibition and the headquarters economy and to enhance connectivity within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In addition, Haizhu has signed five project contracts with enterprises such as China South Steel and e-commerce giant JD since the beginning of the year. With total investment reaching 10 billion yuan, the projects cover the fields of information safety, industrial R&D, steel manufacturing, the digital economy and fashionable clothing.
