The northern section of Guangzhou South Railway Station Express Channel recent began construction with the Haizhuwan Tunnel breaking ground. The whole project is set for completion in four years. The channel is the first speedway that directly connects Guangzhou South Railway Station with the central urban area. When it is completed, the trip will only take 15 minutes. 

The channel will be a standard urban two-way six-lane expressway, with a designed speed of 60 kilometers per hour on the main road and 40 kilometers per hour on related ring roads. It includes a cross-river tunnel and three interchanges linking Nanzhou Road, Guangzhou Beltway and Nanpu Island.

The tunnel will be the first large diameter shield tunnel in Guangzhou, and will take a number of measures to reduce noise and improve vehicle driving comfort.

The project will effectively relieve congestion for travelers from central urban areas to Guangzhou South Railway Station, enabling the business area to connect with those within the inner ring of the city.
